Tsugaru Shakuhachi Music - Tsugaru Yama Uta について・・・
Changing the instrument a little, Shakuhachi is the japanese bamboo root-end vertical flute. With only 5 holes, it was used by Komuso monks for meditation. Today the meditation musics still remain as Honkyoku. Shakuhachi is also used to accompany the shamisen in Minyo (folk songs) and Nagauta/Sankyoku (classical songs), and modern songs too (Think of some enka, or the worldwide famous anime Naruto)
The songe here is Tsugaru Yama Uta, sung by the workers who lived on the feet of Iwaki mountain, in Aomori district, hence, the name Tsugaru. Yokobue (horzontal bamboo flute) is also used to play this song. The singing is very difficult, resembling the hard work and bad weather. Lyrics change between the eastern and western part of the mountain's foot. Please enjoy!
