Crystal Bowersox, before she became an international star, is the lead vocal in this viral music video of "Sweet Home Chicago". This video, produced, directed and edited by Mark Schimmel was shot in one day and features eight street musician groups singing in eight different Chicago locations. The project, which contained over 48 audio tracks and multiple visual elements, took over 9 months to complete. This project was created for online use at chicagostreetmusicians.org and markschimmel.com Before Crystal Bowersox thawed Simon Cowell's icy heart on American Idol, the dreadlocked chanteuse was entertaining commuters in Chicago El stations. Local musicians Sarah Barnes and Gabriel Chapman witnessed Bowersox's leap from subway songstress to superstardom. The two founded a busker advocacy group called Chicago Street Musicians in August 2009, and they featured Bowersox in an as-yet-unreleased promo video alongside more than a dozen of the city's sidewalk performers. "When we first heard Crystal sing," Barnes says, "Gabe and I looked at each other and I said, 'My God, this is just such raw talent.'"
