Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger Gokai Cellular ゴーカイジャー ゴーカイセルラー PT1 について・・・
Welcome to Part One of my review of the DX Henshin Keitai Gokai Cellular[変身携帯ゴーカイセルラー]! This part covers the details of the toy itself while the second part covers the electronics of the toy.
This is the Henshin Item of Gokai Silver [ゴーカイシルバー]. He is the latest sixth regular* team member since Dragonranger in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. The way this phone works is that a Ranger Key [レンジャーキー] is inserted into the top portion of the phone and then "scanned" when press the button of the corresponding Ranger [Example: Gokaisilver Key+Gokaisilver button] and press the red button on top of the phone is pressed. It doesn't use Ranger Keys is the same fashion that the Mobirates [モバイレーツ] does. It does, however, have a slot on the bottom for the Gold Anchor Key [ゴールドアンカーキー] which is needed for Gokai Silver to change to Gokaisilver Gold Mode [ゴールドモード].
As you will see in Part 2 of my review, the electronics are similar in nature to the Mobirates. Tomokazu Seki provides the voice here as well. To change between Henshin Mode and Telephone Mode, you have to press the Gokaisilver button twice, this will make a distinct sound to let you know that you've done it properly. There are a number of codes that have unique phrases to the Gokai Cellular [Gooooookaiger?] and there is even a game! For the game, you must match the face with the Ranger named. For example, when the phone says "Megasilver!" you press the Megasilver button within the time limit. There are two different phrases when the game is beaten. Simple, but fun to see how quickly you can figure out what it is going to say.
Here is where I talk about the negatives. First, quality. As with Bandai toys in recent years, this toy is pretty sloppy. The sounds are very quiet, which can probably be attributed to the included watch batteries. The grinding of the "scanning" piece is unnecessarily loud--it drowns out the sound of the quiet voice! The black plastic looks kinda messy just taking it right out of the box. The red scanner piece has a tendancy to fly off when you slide with back in place with the window open [If you have a Gokai Cellular, you probably know what i'm talking about]. The Key release makes it look like it's vomitting out the Ranger Key. The Keys themselves are not that easy to put in... All of this can hinder someone's ability to just have fun and play with the toy. This is a Deluxe Henshin Item, it is priced that way, and it should feel that way.
I'd also like to point out how trusting this toy is. You can put any Ranger Key in that you want and it wouldn't know the difference. Even with the Gold Anchor Key, there is a code that you can type in for Gold Mode. the electronics are certainly not as specific as they are in the Mobirates--or even the Tensouder for that matter...
I'd like to think that the unique design and simple, but fun games are the saving graces of this toy. 3/5 seems like a fair assessment, no?
*Dragonranger may be the first regular Sixth Ranger, but X1 Mask appeared in a single episode of Hikari Sentai Maskman five years prior to Zyuranger.
