DX Juken Gattai Gekitouja! DX 獣拳合体 ゲキトージャ!
By the time Gekiranger aired, there really hadn't been true animal Mecha in quite some time. Granted, the early part of the 2000s was saturated with animal/beast based mecha between Gaoranger and Abaranger...it was great to have Gekiranger get back into the animal based mecha party. Here we have the minimalist's dream: a three piece mecha!
Gekitouja is the resulting combination of the primary three Gekibeast (ゲキビースト)...
1. Gekitiger
2. Gekicheetah
3. Gekijaguar
1. ゲキタイガー
2. ゲキチーター
3. ゲキジャガー
The only accessories that Gekitouja comes with are the three tails that belong to each Gekibeast. The resulting combination of the tails forms the Gekisetsukon (ゲキセツコン). Gekitiger also houses electronics which can be controlled by two different buttons. Pressing the button on the back allows for the legs to spin, while the lower button spins the torso. There are also lights in both fists/paws.
I kinda like this mecha. It is lightyears better than Daibouken (ダイボウケン) but i'd say that Engineoh (エンジンオー) has the advantage. Aside from the seemingly weak design, my major beef involves the lack of a sword. In the nearly 30 years since Battle Fever Robo came out (as of 2007) there has never been a primary Sentai Mecha toy without a sword. Several series early in the 2000s came very close to breaking the tradition by including weak swords and having better ones sold seperately, but this seals the deal. Gekitouja is the first, primary DX Sentai Mecha to lack a sword.
Power Rangers Jungle Fury saw a very similar version of Gekitouja under the Megazord line as Jungle Pride Megazord. Bandai Korea also released a version for Power Rangers Wild Spirits (파워레인저 와일드스피릿) as DX Wild Beast (DX와일드비스트).
